The New York Milk Bank supports infants by providing pasteurized donor human milk to premature infants in NICUs, and to families in the community when supply is available. Human milk helps protect babies against infections and reduces the risk of allergies, especially for the first six weeks of life. The use of pasteurized donor human milk is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics when mom's own milk is unavailable or insufficient.
